  • Are you a planter, nurturer or harvester?

Are you a planter, nurturer or harvester?

I’ve not played the lottery for decades let alone won it but, leaping around shrieking delightedly with a friend as we harvested potatoes the other day FELT like an enormous win…

For ages, each time I passed my coldframe, I thought, “I need to Google “How to harvest potatoes””.

Yet another new thing to figure out from scratch.

A chore.

Cutting off bits of spring onion each time I wanted it was a delight but I didn’t believe that, under the soil, there’d BE actual potatoes.

I’ve spent so much time weeding (and meaning to weed), I’d forgotten the joy of seeing something I’d planted actually coming to fruition.

But the potatoes were abundant.

They’re delicious.

And it’s been a pleasure to share my unexpectedly enormous potato harvest with loved ones.

Are you a planter, nurturer or harvester?

I had an epiphany about my being more of a planter than a nurturer or harvester a couple years ago – You can read my Rapport column HERE or by scrolling down

Even so, I’ve continued to spend more time and energy on the exciting idea phases of all sorts of things, not necessarily seeing them through.

But recognising this meant that I had enough self awareness to ASK a friend to help me with the potato harvest meant putting a support in place.

As it turned out, she was as delighted as I was with it.

When you think of your own default mode be it in the garden or in any kind of project, are you a planter? Great with new ideas and getting started?

Maybe you’re a nurturer? Carefully tending to what’s been planted? Removing weeds and giving it the care, water, nourishment and space it needs to grow?

Or perhaps you’re a harvester? Great at finishing things off?

How might you collaborate more?

There’s a lovely African proverb around going faster alone but going further together.

When you think of ANY project (or crop!) that you’re not seeing through with as much ease as you’d like, can you think of friends and acquaintances who might have skills and energies that complement your own?

Make it more fun?

Give yourself permission to dream unreaslistically.

YES. They may not be interested / be too busy but make a note of everyone you can think of.

Who MIGHT you ask?

How might you get further than you ever imagined by planting / nurturing or harvesting more with the support of someone else/a group?

What are you ready to plant, nourish or harvest?
