  • Do you ever feel unsupported by your nearest and dearest?

Do you ever feel unsupported by your nearest and dearest?

Posted on 30/06/202228/06/2022 By EveMenezesCunningham
365 Ways to Feel Better, Couch Coaching, divine feminine

We all need to be seen and heard. Acknowledged. Celebrated. Being human, our nearest and dearest sometimes miss us (as we do with them). This week’s blog has some journal prompts to help you acknowledge yourself and others

A poignant moment in the Jennifer Lopez Netflix doc, Halftime, has her celebrating possible Oscar buzz about her film Hustlers only for a resigned, “I’ll say, ‘Go Jets!” when a family WhatsApp chat is exceedingly enthusiastic about the Miami Jets and completely ignores one relative’s comment about her film doing so well.

You can tell she’s been there many many times before.

She starred in and produced it. It clearly means a lot to her. And no one else even comments on it.

Journal prompts

Have you ever had great news at work / in a relationship / in some other area of your life and felt hurt that the people closest to you barely registered it let alone helped you celebrate?

Have you learned that your successes are too much for people?

Do you downplay things going well in your life in case it somehow makes others feel bad?

Who in your life helps you express things that are going well?

Who helps you celebrate?

Do you acknowledge loved ones successes or do you sometimes miss seeing them? (We all do it – we’re human. We get preoccupied with what’s going on for us)

How might you celebrate your own successes even when you’ve been conditioned to downplay them?

How might you support others in celebrating theirs?

If we don’t pause to take stock of how far we’ve already come (it might be Oscar buzz or it might be stopping self harming in some way), we lose motivation.

What are you going to start doing differently?
