How novelty helps our brains

Posted on 16/06/202207/06/2022 By EveMenezesCunningham
Covid_19, post traumatic growth, Press and other media

Babies’ brains are taking in soooo much new information, they develop enormously. In the past few decades, neuroscience and research around neuroplasticity have shown that we can impact healthy brain development right up until we die! And novelty helps to create new neural connections.

Do you remember those early days of Covid? The first time I wore a mask in a shop, I felt so discombolutated, I lost my bank card! Then, when travel was allowed again, I was so unused to it, I got to Knock Airport and froze for a few moments, unable to remember how to airport.

By my return from that first trip to London I was happily navigating bigger airports again, recharged and refuelled by being around loved ones I’d not seen for so long and being in crowds of strangers. At one point, I’d had a meditative pause delighting in all the strangers at Liverpool Street Station.

I hope you find this piece for Rapport magazine, on bringing more novelty into your life and improving different areas of your life as a result, helpful.

You can read it by clicking HERE and on the image above and (if you’re on a desktop) below.

What are you going to do today or this week to bring a sense of newness into your life?

Feel free to email eve@selfcarecoaching.net to let me know.

And (at the risk of sounding needy and desperate) please feel free to share this post on your social media etc so others who may find it helpful can read it.

With love,
